Kathy Rollinger, Owner of Payroll Vault Winona, Minnesota, has been in accounting for more than 25 years working as a controller for several companies and 10 years in public accounting before launching her own practice 8 years ago.

Rollinger had been on a quest to find a new payroll software in anticipation of her current software being eliminated. When the COVID-19 global pandemic began in March of 2020, the majority of business owners were instantly overwhelmed as they began to navigate extreme uncertainty and rapid changes.

In the middle of an already stressful tax season, her consulting business was suddenly thrown into COVID upkeep - staying on top of daily changes related to tax, funding, and payroll legislation while also guiding her clients and local business community of Winona. Her own business was no different; it was a continuous hunt for “How do we pivot now?” The alarming reality was making itself very clear - either it was time to abandon payroll services, or it was time find a more efficient solution to managing that segment of her business.

Rollinger decided now was the time to revisit the payroll franchise opportunity, certainly with everything affecting payroll due to the pandemic. Back in 2018 during a Scaling New Heights conference, Rollinger was introduced to Payroll Vault and Sean Manning, CEO/Founder, via Karen Simmons, Payroll Vault franchise owner.

After a few meetings with Manning, speaking to several of new and legacy franchisees, Rollinger decided she was well matched for the franchise brand. Payroll Vault’s approach to service delivery matched her passion to provide exceptional and personalized services within her community and had more efficient systems in place than her current model. It was a win-win.

With 2021 beginning to regain more normalcy for her clients, Rollinger’s team will be focusing on growth goals – hoping to double her clients by year-end. “We have been so busy transitioning our clients to the payroll platform that it’s finally time to ‘unlock the vault’ of the many business solutions that add value for our clients,” said Rollinger. “After the year we just had, we’ll be really working with our clients and prospects to help them run as efficiently as possible with our suite of workforce management services. I feel thankful that I am a local service provider for which our community can rely on and trust and be backed by the national brand with Payroll Vault. I’m able to help and support business owners more effectively and it feels incredible.”

Approaching her first full year in the Payroll Vault family, Rollinger hasn’t looked back or missed a beat. When she’s not hustling at the office, you can find her baking, reading, camping, and traveling with family.
