New Year, Better You - Setting Yourself Up for Success

Out with the old, in with the new. Typically, similar patterns occur each year; we set goals for what we want to accomplish over the course of the new year. Whether it be more exercise, learn new skills, or break old habits, we set goals or ‘resolutions’ that either stick, or don’t. To be fair, many of us find it difficult to truly challenge ourselves.

There has never been a better year to take your shot at success! The list below gives you options to challenge and lift yourself up. The first step is to set goals, break them down, and give them a timeline.

Challenge yourself

Be inspired by learning something new. Take on bigger projects in your work and personal life. If you never challenge yourself, you will never know how far you can go.

Do something for you

We get wrapped up in our own world and distracted from taking necessary “me time”. Take a trip, enjoy a staycation, find a new hobby, or participate in a class. This will help you relax, find better enjoyment in life, and learn something new about yourself.

Travel

Take some time to explore. There are many benefits that come from traveling. Maybe you need to recharge and reset, or maybe you’re searching for inspiration. Whatever the reason, get out and away from your day-to-day life.

Take Vacation Time

Most people in the workforce don’t take advantage of company vacation policies. In 2015, it was reported that 55% of Americans didn’t take their vacation days. By not using your vacation, you are cheating yourself. This is important and should not be sent to the wayside. Treat yourself to a retreat.

Reading may not be at the top of your priority list, but it has many benefits other than the obvious access to knowledge and entertainment factor. Reading can help improve focus and concentration, improve analytical thinking and writing skills, and create tranquility.

Over the next couple week, set goals with purpose and do the things you’ve been wanting to do. This is your year. Go forward and make 2017 a success!
